Same thing happened to me :( phoned xps support and the tech talked me through rebuilding the boot.ini in under 5 mins cost me 50 cents, cant complain.
for anyone not computer savey ect phoneing tech support for your pc manufacturer or Microsoft support should get you sorted fast. Just have your windows disk at hand.

For everyone out for blood ect.
News
So CCP have made a news announcment on front page of website and offer there apologuies for the mess, now lets let them come up with fix's for everyone instead of making this thread the biggest whinefest ever, sure people are allowed to be annoyed but turning this thread into a whinefest is only making it harder for people to try find information needed when they have to sift through hundreds of useless posts.
And yes I was affected also and had to rebuild a boot.ini file before anyone use's the you were not affected reply.

Not being all that technically minded it looks as if the PC will have to go and be repaired, no doubt at some cost.
Well done.

Do you have the original Windows install disks handy? Are you able to get through some of the steps in the article here?
Yes, but for some reason my PC wouldn't boot from the XP disk. So I delved into the murky world of the BIOS and set to read from CD ROM only.
My computer would then only post this message on start up.
'DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER'
I probably shouldnt have fiddled with the BIOS, but there you go - if you don't try you can't succeed. (Ive finally got back into the BIOS now and sorted that). Perhaps I've got a hardware fault with my CD-ROM drive? Any ideas on how I should have the BIOS set up correctly?
C.
BOOT disk failure, means it see's the CD drive but the XP cd is not working, is the CD a burned copy or a real copy?

now i reinstalled xp and i dont know if i can run the client with premium content that i downloaded before 4 a.m.????
hal.dll was missing, soon as you have reinstalled your OS you will be fine running the game.
bump
ok so you are saying i can run the eve i had updated last night and it wont mess up my boot.ini or windows again? cuz i didnt download premium content seperately i downloaded it from ingame and i dont have that patch alone for install. so do i have to download again preium content update or i can play from old eve installation?

If its all installed and was installed before you did the OS reinstall the damage was done and repaired you will be fine running the game.
